The Aquarium of Genoa (in Italian: Acquario di Genova) is the largest aquarium in Italy and the second largest in Europe. The Aquarium of Genoa is an educational, scientific and cultural centre. Its mission is to educate and raise public awareness as regards conservation, management and responsible use of aquatic environments.The Aquarium of Genoa is co-ordinating the AquaRing EU project. It also provides scientific expertise and a great deal of content for AquaRing, including documents, images, academic content and interactive online courses, via its Online Resource Centre(http://www.aquaringweb.eu/).

It opened on October 15, 1993, and it is so popular that 1,200,000 people go there each year. This aquarium is 10,000 square meters! Aside from how big it is, it has 71 tanks. The Aquarium of Genoa’s mission is to teach the people about marine conservation. In order to get the public’s attention, they host events that include employees, families, and schools.
Within the 71 tanks and 4 million liters of water, there are 600 species of animals and plants. The fish that are there are all different in their own way. Some of the big animal attractions are: Penguins, Sharks, and Seals.
